Kick Drawer as a Sub Assembly

In this article we explore how to add a drawer as a sub assembly to a base unit - this will be done in two parts

Part One - Create the Kick Drawer Unit

a)  Put a two door unit into the plan > open in section view

b)  Section Face > Modifications > Hide Parts

c)  Select Toe Parts as shown - this removes all the kick parts in this cabinet

d)  Section Face > Properties > Case > Edit cabinet case properties

e)  Cabinet Properties > Select Top > No Top :  Select Bottom > No Bottom > OK

f)  Section Face > Delete all parts both Face and Interior

g)  Section Face >  Select Drawer

h)  Properties > Select Toe > Toe Height > 0

i)  Return to Elevation View > Right Click > Save > Save As

j)  Elevation > Save Object box appears > Change name to 'Kick Drawer'  >  Description > Kick Drawer > OK

Part Two - Add the Kick Drawer Sub Assembly

a)  Open Drawer Unit in Section View > Modifications > Hide Parts

b)  Hide Parts > Select Toe Parts

c)  Face > Objects

d)  Catalogs > Your Library > Base > Drawer Cabinets > Kick Drawer > Left Click

e)  Drag the Kick Drawer and drop over the Drawer unit

f)  Face > Kick Drawer > Adjust the Position

  • Left/Right = 0

g)  Face > Kick Drawer >  Up/Down (Y) = 0

h)  Face > Size > Length (DY) > Open Parameter Edit

  • Change from Value to Equation
  • IF = 1
  • THEN = :cab.face.y > Test

i)  Face > Parameter Edit > Test Result

  • Condition returned:  TRUE
  • Equation returned:  135 (or the size of your selected kick height)

j)  Face >  Kick Drawer > Width (DX)  > Open Parameter Edit

  • Change from Value to Equation
  • IF = 1
  • THEN = :cab.dx > Test
  • Condition returned:  TRUE
  • Equation returned:  700 (or width of selected cabinet) > OK

K)  Face > Kick Drawer > Thickness (DZ)

  • Depth less the Toe recess (580 - 35)

VOILA!!!  Toe Kick Drawer as a Sub Assembly
